Chicagobreakingnews.com

Please evaluate and critique Chicagobreakingnews.com's Web site.

On Wednesday, Jan. 28 we are going to hear from Bill Adee, who is the editor of digital operations at the Chicago Tribune. A few months ago, Bill launched Chicagobreakingnews.com which draws breaking news content from Chicago Tribune.com, CLTV and WGN.

This week you should pay attention to the content posted on Chicagobreakingnews.com. Questions you might consider:

-Why was this considered breaking news?
-Where did the content come from? Was it a reputable source? How can you tell?
-How quickly after the news broke was this posted to the Chicagobreakingnews.com?
-What kind of holes are in the stories as they are posted to the site? Are those holes later addressed? How?
-Is there any kind of news that the site is not covering that it should be covering? What would be some examples?
-What are the ethical issues that you think ChicagoBreakingNews.com deals with on a daily basis?
-What could this site do to improve? Or does it not need any improving?

  1. Upon first glance, I was really impressed by this Web site. They have a lot of different features - photo, video, and news reports in an easy-to-use format, which I liked. I also enjoyed the wide range of photo gallery options. I liked that it really WAS breaking news on the site - a trial or a local water main break - news people really needed to know. I'm not sure how often the site was updated. I liked that maps were given to showcase the area, but would've appreciated a breakdown by neighborhood - to really give the stories local focus for what I needed to know. I know the Web site is Chicago breaking news, but breaking it down even further might make it more accessible and enjoyable for readers.

  2. I think ChicagoBreakingNews.com’s page is great in terms of local coverage; I already had the RSS feed saved to my bookmarks because it’s nice to be able to jump to all those local stories right from a drop-down in my browser. For a lot of people who only spend a little bit of time on news sites, this probably works very well. But on the other hand some may come to the site not realizing that it’s a feed and be disappointed that there’s not an easier way to look at the titles and leads without scrolling down the page.

The little orange highlight that indicates the story is an update is helpful. That way someone can try to go back and catch up on the previous information of a story as well. Also, there were several posts that caught my eye that had more than 10 comments from readers. This is a good indicator that readers are understanding and enjoying the format of the site.

The national news content that was sprinkled on the site is a good thing, since the reader is primarily going to think of it as a Chicago news site. The video content is a nice addition to the stories, but I think the photos on the site could be improved.

Because it’s a breaking news site, the writers and editors have to be just as quick catching a retraction as they are catching a tip. That's probably a big challenge of running a breaking news site. They have to be careful with how quickly their writing can be passed around among internet users.

The only drawback to the site that I have noticed over the course of reading it is that oftentimes I have to visit another site to get a thorough story. That might lead readers astray from the site, and then they might not return to finish browsing on Chicago Breaking News. You definitely wouldn’t come to the site looking for in depth analysis of issues or feature stories. But the problem of having to go to another site is sometimes addressed within the post itself by linking to the outside source or AP site.

  3. This critique assignment was the first time I’d heard of chicagobreakingnews.com, but I was extremely impressed with it. It really says something that, of the four critiques we have done, this was the only one that took me an extended amount of time because I kept getting sidetracked by reading all the articles. The good thing about this site is that it has one main focus: breaking news in the Chicago area. Whereas the NY Times and USA Today have a lot of bases to cover, the simplicity of chicagobreakingnews.com is a huge advantage.

The stories seem extremely current—at 11 a.m. I read a story from 10:40 a.m.—but I was confused about something. I was under the impression these stories are compiled from Chicago local news outlets and media (radio, TV, newspaper); so are these stories not breaking elsewhere just as soon? The consolidation, though, of only the breaking news stories might still make it a resource over other sites. I like the range of stories, from el re-routes to homicides (which are on a similar level of “breaking” news in terms of reader impact).

The stories do have holes, but that is what breaking news means, to me. I actually like that the stories are more like blurbs. They cut right to the chase, and, of course, are filled in with other, more detailed, stories later (I believe?). The ethical issues I’m sure chicagobreakingnews.com encounters go along with that: to break a news story, a reporter must be confident of the facts, or risk losing all credentials and potentially hurting a lot of people. He has to fill in enough holes to produce the story, but leave enough out so he isn’t lying. It is a tough dilemma that is encountered almost solely in breaking news. (We watched Sally Field’s Absence of Malice in my Intro to Journalism class last year—the movie is about this exact dilemma.)

Really great tool: the maps! For an entirely local news outlet, I think that is such a great idea.
One thing I noticed that really bothered me (but is not the website’s fault) was the commentary by users. The comments to many stories were just jabs at other users’ comments—in some cases, all out insults towards each other. Unfortunately, this is something no one can control, and it comes with giving people the privilege to interact with their news.

  4. The first time I visited this site I could easily tell why this site was considered breaking news. There is a large clock with the date and time showing time lapse which makes the website seem fresh and updated with the latest breaking news. Also I saw that the site implements the Google map viewer so the person who is on the site can see all of the most recent happening in Chicago by location. This is one of the most important features I would point out that gives this site a sense of originality to the site. It gives the site originality because it genuinely plays to the local Chicago audience. The use of the Google map adds authenticity and it also gives the viewer some idea as to what happened and where it happened in respects to where they live or where they might be at that moment.

The site is updated with stories from virtually every local Chicago news outlet. The site is updated rapidly as soon as a story comes to knowledge and the stories range from homicides to traffic reports and traffic incidents and everything in between. This site has a good niche because large newspapers have to cover not only Chicago specific news they also have to cover National and World news as well. This site does a great job at staying committed to its Chicago beat.

There is an overwhelming since of simplicity when I looked through the site and this is refreshing. Many other sites try too hard to make the site attractive to the reader’s eye when all a reader wants from a website is to be able to easily navigate and the site. This site does this very well because it simply lists all of the recent news related events in and around Chicago and it does this without the use of tons of advertisements. I can’t find any negative aspects about this site except for the fact that the stories are nothing more than descriptions of stories and don’t go into great detail about each separate story which can only be found in a newspaper.

  5. To me, www.Chicagobreakingnews.com is very good for it is trying to accomplish. The setup of the website is simple, straight forward, and easy to navigate. I really like how you can just scroll straight down the page as opposed to clicking on links to get to different sections of the website. I especially liked the Local News Sources tab at the top of the page. This feature allowed for me to discern where the news came from and which source i wanted to use. (i liked this feature because it allows the viewer to pick from their preferred sources among what is available)

The news was breaking news simply because the stories being reported had occurred within the last 24 hours, if not much sooner. The news is also posted fairly quickly after the actual event occurs, also usually within that same 12-24 hour time period. However, this is where one of my concerns came up. I found that the majority of the breaking news to be either crime, death, or arson related. I'm not saying that none of these are "news worthy" but i guess i would enjoy something that doesn't remotely resemble something morbid, but i guess thats just the media industry for you, whatever sells right? The two stories that stood out to me as the types of stories that could have been taken out were the one on Miss Indiana winning the Miss America Pageant posted on January 24th and the story on Gov. Blagojevich and and where he has been drawing inspiration lately posted on January 25th. In this respect, i think that the website could improve on what types of stories it posts. Although i do acknowledge that this is not always possible.

Given that the site reports breaking news, there were definitely holes to be filled in some of the stories. But that is just a given. I do think that the site did a commendable job at filling those holes in a timely fashion. For example, the story on former Chicago Bull Eddy Curry's ex-girlfriends murder was updated within several hours to report that police were looking for a specific male suspect. Whereas earlier they had not reported this. In the same vein, i'm sure that the website deals with ethical issues on a daily basis regarding how well they have been reporting stories and filling in the "holes" of their reports.

Overall, the site was good enough for me. I don't need all the colors and pictures and in that respect, the website did well. It was very user-friendly and that is a big advantage for me. However, i think that it could improve on what stories it covers. Although i know that this is contingent upon what breaking stories are actually available to them.

  6. Chicagobreakingnews.com is a very straight forward news website. Like its web address states, the site has all the breaking news across Chicago. The articles are listed chronologically with the most recent at the top. Multimedia of some sort is included in each article such as a news feed or a location map.

I really liked how the front page opened up to a map of the city of Chicago with pin points to where all the breaking stories were happening. In addition, maps are added to different stories as well so the reader knows the area where the event occurred. I thought that it was a very unique approach and really added to the articles. I am not native to Chicago so those maps really added to the story and helped me figure out where events were taking place.

I also really liked the format as well. It reminded me a lot of the format that TMZ and AOL use for their news stories. This particular format works really well when looking for up to date information pertaining to on-going stories. For example, this is a great news website to go to for up-to-date coverage on the Blagojevich impeachment trial which will begin soon. However, this would not be the best website to go to for your main source of news. It only covers stories in Chicago and I personally like national and international stories mixed in with my news.

However, it should be mentioned that Chicagobreakingnews.com does redeem itself in that it offers tons of links to other news websites that can provide a broader range of news stories. By clicking on “Local News Source” you are taken to a page with not only all the news sources available in Chicago (i.e. NBC, Chicago Herald, etc.), but it lists the top three stories from each news source. I found this to be incredibly helpful. I also really liked the links to the “Breaking News Video” and the “WGN Radio.” I like that they had these additional media options on top of the media offered with each article.

With the upcoming impeachment trial that Blagojevich has turned into a circus, I will definitely be visiting this site more often to stay up-to-date with the proceeding.

  7. My first thought after just glancing at chicagobreakingnews.com is that it is a news media for the people by the people. On the homepage below each lead is a link to “Get the full story.” And after clicking on the link and skimming the rest of the story, I noticed the writer’s name was at the very bottom of the post. When I clicked on the name, a blank window popped up to write the individual an email. The URL of the site ends in “/blog/” another indication to me that this is primarily a citizen journalist media outlet.

The right side bar “Breaking News Tool Kit,” lets the reader contribute to the site by sending in news tips and photos, stressing the “right place, right time” citizen journalist mentality. This brings up the ethical question: can this site be taken legal action against if it has “blog” in its web address? Well, the answer is yes, but the real question may be how successful would the case be.

If the website’s goal is to post local news as it happens, then I believe it is successful. The simple layout is perfect for skimming the latest breaking-news articles and I especially like the incorporation of the map pinpointing the exact location of the happening. The tabs on the top of the page are very basic and the inclusion of “Local new sources,” and specific headlines showing where the articles came from are particularly helpful. If the reader wants to know more details of the story, he or she can visit the outlet that provided it originally.

Overall, I think the site is accomplishing its goals as being a breaking news site, nothing visually stimulating is needed for an audience that wants latest-breaking news as fast and accurate as possible.

  8. Finding something to criticize on Chicagobreakingnews.com is going to be a challenge, but here goes...

I agree with the previous respondants here. The function of the Google Map allows the reader to identify immediately any stories which may be within their proximity. Since this is one of the criteria for news judgement, I think it is a fantastic idea. The accountability by allowing the readers to e-mail the reporters directly is another feature flattering the site. The timeliness aspect of news-gathering is aptly covered by the breaking news ticker, giving us the time and place.

I think its a novel idea for all the Chicago based Tribune corp. outlets to convene on one site, compiling stories and swapping staff teams. It is also meeting its immediacy objective by linking streaming video and audio from its member media stations.

Because the stories are "breaking" - it places restrictions on fact-checking. It puts the site in an awkward position, because it's the entire Tribune corp. liable for mistakes, since each are presumably contributing to the site and broadcasting reports on its basis. An ethical dilemma would be apparent if stories were not properly fact-checked before posting in order to maintain an edge in the Chicago news business.

The top stories regard soon to be ex-Gov. Blago and the Family Secrets sentencing of its first guilty defendant. Because it is nearly midnight, these stories are probably a little older (though their timeposts suggest very recent updates - within the hour, this was likely a minor addition or fact tweak or just plain refresh) - than some of the breaking stories on the map.

This is where I find some sticky business on the site. The Governor story is the biggest story in Chicago right now, but it isn't the newest. The site regains credibility in its "Col. Tribune Recommends" tab, linking to stories from other media outlets of interest to Chicagoans. The second story posted is from the Chicago Sun Times. This sways my judgement to trust the site a bit more.

One story I found to be a bit hole-punched came from the Tribune's Azam Ahmed about a drug bust on the South Side of Chicago. It is likely that the story was posted with all the information available to him, but it references a month-long investigation into a drug traffiking ring on the South Side. There are no charges filed yet against the suspect in custody, thus making a name an improbable report. In addition, because it draws on an ongoing investigation, it may not be wise to jeapordize the police work by revealing the subjects of the investigation. However, I think the reasons for the lack of information need to be included in the story to give it the full oomph of credibility it deserves. It's a really brief story for something warranting much more reporting.

This is another of the ethical issues - should incomplete stories be reported if they are factually accurate? The short answer, yes. I think the improvement could integrate the "check back to ______ (blank news station) for updates on this story as it develops" in print, to alert the reader to more details arriving.

Also, if the site is going to link to other newsgroup sites in Chicago, why not feature them among the top stories? Shouldn't the top story get preference, not the Tribune written story?

These are all ideas I hope can be fleshed out during our visit from the site's developer. Either way, it's a fantastic, streamlined approach to "what matters to us."

  9. My first impression of Chicagobreakingnews.com is it's pretty impressive in its presentation. The overall format is well-done and it delivers a professional and reliable feel to its design. I particularly enjoy the Google map feature which indicates the location in which the "latest stories" have taken place. In addition, one can easily obtain the breaking news by scrolling down to see headline stories along with their leads (makes this site easy to read with a clutter-free layout).

From looking at the stories included on the homepage, the site seems to covers politics, deaths, crime, and even entertainment. Each of these (besides entertainment) stories definitely fall under the category of "breaking news" which the public should be aware of. The seriousness, controversy, and overall importance of a story constitute it as breaking news (stories that captivate a wide audience). The website gathers its stories from such local news organizations as NBC, ABC, CBS, Sun-Times, FOX, and WGN. I would consider each of these to be reputable sources because of their reputation and relationship with media and news gathering.

The site is obviously taking a local approach to news it chooses to present. As a result, certain vital stories that are taking place nationally and internationally are not shown. However, stories such as the Blagojevich impeachment trial can be considered a national story with a local involvement because of the figure. Nonetheless, breaking stories that are taking place around the country and throughout the world are not available; for example, the Iran and Pakistan relations conflict.

The site is very well put together and can be used as a legitimate source to gather breaking news on the local level. However, I feel as though it should consider expanding into national or even international breaking news stories. I know this would involve a great deal more to change the site, but I definitely thing it would be capable of such an operation.

  10. Why was this considered breaking news?
-Where did the content come from? Was it a reputable source? How can you tell?
-How quickly after the news broke was this posted to the Chicagobreakingnews.com?
-What kind of holes are in the stories as they are posted to the site? Are those holes later addressed? How?
-Is there any kind of news that the site is not covering that it should be covering? What would be some examples?
-What are the ethical issues that you think ChicagoBreakingNews.com deals with on a daily basis?
-What could this site do to improve? Or does it not need any improving?

Chicagobreakingnews.com is on top of its game in terms of getting the news out there right away. The first time I visited the site was a Sunday night, and while I realize that Sunday night is probably a slow news time, there were still a lot of timely news stories that weren't yet "old news". Obviously, during the week, it's more amplified in terms of content, and it definitely deserves the title "breaking news." I think the Chicago element is crucial, too. Not only is it breaking news, but it's breaking news that impacts a difference in the lives of Chicagoans. Medical emergencies on the CTA, water main breaks, and dangerous fires are all things that people need to know about because they affect our lives. I can imagine myself using this website to find out what's going on around me, or also to get more information about something I experienced (if, for instance, I had been on a delayed red line train Sunday night).

You can tell that the news is sourced from regular news tips like any other hard news story. A lot of the stories have police sources quoting information, which is good and reliable. I noticed that a lot of the facts are double checked through multiple sources, which adds to the stories' credibility. You can tell that the sources are credible because they're not vague. I really hate reading in a story, "said someone close to the issue" because I feel like I cannot trust it. In a breaking news site, such a sketchy citing of sources would definitely raise my eyebrows. Good job on citing accurate sources.

The stories are posted pretty much right away. You can tell by the abruptness and straightforwardness that the reporters get the news tip, do their leg work, and write the story right away. It's straightforward, to-the-point, hard facts. I think that any holes in the stories are natural because of the nature of breaking news. Sometimes to get a complete story, you have to take more time to investigate than you'd be allowed for something to still be considered "breaking news." I think one suggestion to fill out the wholes a little bit would be to ask people on the scenes for quotes. Supplementing police or official source quotes with ideas/opinions/impressions from regular people would make the stories seem better (for example, the story about the dead baby in the Albany Park apartment had a quote from a neighbor in the building--this was really good and helpful).

I think that Chicagobreakingnews.com would face a lot of the same ethical problems that regular news sites face. Just because they have more time to get the news to print doesn't mean that regular news sources should have more relaxed ethics. I think that finding trustworthy sources and getting the facts straight would be the biggest ethical issues. With something like breaking news, you're just trying to get it out there as fast as possible, but if you do sloppy reporting, then you lose your credibility. But from what I can tell, the reporting for Chicagobreakingnews.com is not sloppy and the stories are quite good.

I think content-wise, the website is very good. I especially like the photos and other multimedia aspects, and maybe it could be improved by adding more of this. I think that design wise, it could be made a little more appealing. The maps, although quite useful, take a long time to load and made my mouse skip a lot while I was scrolling through. Visually the website is not unappealing, but it doesn't do much for me, either.

    ReplyDelete
  11. The reader can tell that this is a breaking news site by looking at the time of each posting. When I looked at this site most of the stories on the front were posted within the past 4 hours or so. That is pretty good updating, and for someone who is at the computer all day t gives them new material every hour or so. As I looked through the site to see how credible it was, I noticed the major news affiliates at the top of the page such as WGN and the Chicago Tribune. I also noticed that some of the pictures were credited to the Chicago Tribune. The endorsements of these major news affiliates makes this site credible to me because I don't believe these organizations would risk their name for a site that would put out sketchy stories. I also like how they use other local news outlets such as ABC and NBC to bring as many breaking stories to the table as they can. I think some of the ethical issues they may face include deciding whether a story is newsworthy or not. If your main purpose is to bring readers breaking news throughout the day, you might have trouble finding stories on some days and printing a story that shouldn't be printed. Also, making sure they have time to check all their facts and get all of the story before they go out and print something. I'm sure they are careful about these things and don't rush stories to the point where they might get sued, but them seem like some issues that would arise in press revolving entirely around breaking news.

  12. ChicagoBreakingNews.com gets it. The whole idea of this website is ingenious. Give people the important news in an organized, fast, manor. More often then not people are looking for important stories. Creating an internet realm where people can get the news they want, and in some cases need is almost a public service. Granted every detail doesn't make the stories featured on the page, but they are still informing citizens of what is going on in the world at that minute and in turn are creating a great bridge to other media outlets to get the whole story. I'm sure the site producers' hope is those outlets which viewers turn to will be one of those run by this website.
Since this is a collaborative effort of major Chicago media news gathers, the news received has to be considered credible. One obstacle that they have to face when trying to generate news quick, is keeping your facts straight, and giving your audience news that they can rely on. Checking sources and giving facts while still breaking a story is always tough.
I think one thing I really like about the site is that it gives attention to stories outside of the city. Most things you find on sites and on the news are very Chicago-centric. While living in a suburb my whole life I found it frustrating only hearing about stories that really didn't apply to me. Giving breaking news from everywhere around Chicago land is important and helps to expand your audience. One other thing I really like is how the site is layed out. They leave room for a story deck, maybe a picture and move on. On a site labeled "Breaking News" generating lots of stories is more important then great stories.

  13. Let me begin with this: I am not a fan of local news. I am probably not the best person to ask whether or not www.chicagobreakingnews.com would appeal to me. As stated in my previous responses, I am a fan of the New York Times. That being said, I do remember perusing www.chicagobreakingnews.com when members of Jennifer Hudson’s family were murdered a few months ago. All though all major news websites were reporting on the deaths, it made sense to go to an aggregate news website from where the murders took place. I tend not to read comments, but it was fitting in this case. If anything, that is this websites charm. When you read comments in the NYT, you cannot help but feel displaced and removed from the responses on such a broad subject. But when applied to local coverage, I felt I was engaged with the community and people out on the street.
As for aesthetics, I did and do not get a professional vibe. I guess that is somewhat of an ambiguous term to use, but I feel that any website that wants to be taken seriously needs to look, well, professional. After clicking on an article, I felt the page’s design to be bland and off-putting. Maybe that is what this website is going for and places emphasis on content, not superficiality, but I think some touching up - say a better layout - could not hurt. That being said, I do like the Breaking News Tool Kit. It is an intuitive layout for someone privy to breaking news. As for calling it breaking news, that might be a bit of a stretch, but every day is not newsworthy, so it seems fitting. In the case of the Hudson murders, the website’s name was appropriate and, aside from the aesthetics, one I would return to.

  14. First off, I just want to say that I love the fact that it is a news website that is specifically created for stories that happen right here in Chicago or in Illinois. The website itself has a very simple feel to it. Its not cluttered like the other news websites we have critiqued. It just get straight to the point by giving the reader the title of the news story, followed by a small piece of the story. I also i like the many quick links tat the website features, such as the map that gives the location of specific stories, the direct wether link to your area and also the link to local crime reports.

After looking at the opening page, I clicked on the local news sources link, which is great! Upon opening it I found a link to stories from many different newspapers. This is awesome because it gives the reader to look at stories from a number of different media sources. It also gives the reading a wide variety of stories that one paper may not have covered.

Another thing that I noticed, is the use of video on the website, which directly relates to the article by McCombs. The video just adds that something extra by giving the reader/viewer another way to get his news. I think the videos are a better way at showing breaking news. It just gives the reader more of the feel that they are receiving it right after it happened instead of reading about it an hour or so later and even the next day. The radio feature is also nice. It just gives the person another may to get his/her news.

The last thing about the website is the live streaming video. I think it is a fun feature that allows people to see what is going on in the newsroom, but after watching it for fifteen minutes, nothing has happened other then a few people walking by. Im sure at times it gets quite hectic and one may see people chaotically running all over the place, but for the most part there looks to be not much to it.

Overall, I really liked the website. The design is very simplistic yet professional and it is very east to navigate. It is a great idea for a website and it allows the greater Chicago area to get the news that really matters.

  15. When I first took a look at chicagobreakingnews.com I can clearly tell that it is all about the news that is going on right now. From the google map indicating where the latest news is happening to the time right up in the masthead.

The design is rather simple, which I like but really would prefer if the links were a different color than the rest of the text. Or, if at least the clickable headlines were a different color.

Maybe I am not looking hard enough, but I am not finding where exactly the news is coming from. I see a writers name, but do not know if that means if that person works for Chicagobreakingnews.com or another credible source.

I think that the idea of Chicagobreakingnews.com is a really good one. It is great that they can pull stories and information from other websites but I think that a lot of people prefer to go to those news organizations site to get news and may not think of going to chicagobreakingnews.com first because at all of the other sites, they can get other news as well.

I do really like how it is interactive with its readers and you can email writers and leave comments on articles.

Over all, I would say it is an interesting idea for a news site and they are for sure accomplishing their goal of bringing the latest news right away. However, I don't think I would use it, personally, because I like getting to see all the other things going on in the world, not just local news, and can easily get that through one website rather than going to two.

  16. This may be my favourite news site so far. I loved the way it was laid out, the colour scheme, and everything else.

I believe it is considered to be breaking news because that's basically all it is. News, coming across the wire, is posted as soon as possible, very barebones, just the essential facts.

Most of the content came from other news sources such as the Tribune and AP. Also, some staff writers are responsible for composite articles, however each of these articles come with links to their companion articles in the main sources: Tribune, AP, etc.

It seems that the news stories are posted within a few minutes of their emergence on other news sources.
The stories are, as I said, very barebones, however, I feel the only “holes” that are found in the stories are those of a conversational nature, i.e., non-essential background information. I don’t feel that these are necessary initially to get the gist of the story.

This site covers basically breaking local news, a lot of the content found on other news sites, such as sports, culture, and travel sections are not present. I don’t think that this site needs to necessarily be cvering these aspects of news as they are not normally “breaking news”.

Some ethical issues that may be dealt with is the content. The articles are posted so soon that some information may be wrong; or originally mislead. Also, the site has to be careful when copying text from other sources.

I love the way the site is laid out, its clear and concise, and the map is fantastic. The ledes and decks are really just enough to decide if I want to read the story or not. The overall balance of the site is really good as well. Maybe a traffic ticker on the side would be another nice feature to add, or a weather forecaster.

The Twitter feed is awesome though, just the right size to look at on my cellphone!

  17. Chicagobreakingnews.com is a well planned site. I liked the news source logos on the top that tells the reader that breaking news stories are the same as the ones airing on TV and Radio stations around the city. The digital timer on the top of the page is also an indicator of the time-line between each breaking news. There will be no doubt in the mind of a first time reader that the stories bear a high degree of credibility.
I also liked the way the stories are lined up all the way to the bottom of the page, allowing the reader to go through each story without difficulty.
Navigation to other parts of the website is easy because the website is not cluttered with all the other items in its menus like most media websites.
This is a breaking news website and I can't think of anything that should be on it now. I thought of entertainment stories, but no entertainment story becomes a breaking news unless it has to do with scandals(not so much), sudden illness or death of celebrities. Until then, I think the website is just perfect.
I am the type of viewer/reader that like to get the news as it is happening and can only say "thank you" for the opportunity to get to know this website. Critiquing it is a plus.
Speaking of entertainment on the website, did anyone see the live WGN Radio link? I have live radio playing on my computer at work while I am writing this comment.

    Great website(*****)
